Capsule 001 - “being”
The first ever apparel capsule collection from ADE Studios
The Vision
As Nina Simone once said, an artist's role is to reflect the times. While that sentiment remains true, I want to take it a step further and say an artist's role is to create culture - to push the collective consciousness towards a culture that is rooted in love, knowledge of self, sociopolitical awareness, and community centeredness.
When making this apparel capsule, I wanted to further build upon that ethos and create clothing that celebrated and spoke to black humanity, black love, black resistance, and overall black being.
I handled the designing of the clothes and also handled styling, creative direction, and photography for the photoshoot.

piece #1: Choose life
Inspired by the songs “i” and “u” by Kendrick Lamar, this design is rooted in messages of self discovery, self acceptance, and self love — encouraging its wearer to embrace the prismatic journey that is the human experience.
Piece #2: Garnet
Inspired by the story of the dynamic character, Garnet, from Steven Universe - this piece celebrates the radical idea of love as both an internal work and a complex, layered, and beautiful outward expression.

Defiance. In this world, we’re taught that for there to be winners, there must always be losers. But what if we allowed our spirits to resist and defy instead of die and acquiesce? The “gods” of this world may use all their dice, but we must resist and continue to dance and rise above.
