“TRTL Academy” Capsule Collection

Creating the collection
The “TRTL Academy” Capsule Collection is a collaboration between myself and my best friend, Terry’s fashion company, TRTL. TRTL focuses on creating upcycled and reworked fashion that is inspired by gritty visuals, architecture, hip hop, and vintage, streetwear aesthetics.
When coming up with ideas for his new collection, Terry and I came up with the idea to collaborate on a capsule collection that was inspired by vintage sportswear and titled it: “TRTL Academy”.
When coming up with ideas for the clothing, we primarily drew inspiration from 40’s and 60’s sports uniforms, mascots, and typographic sports logos.

initial designs
When I began creating the initial designs for the clothes, I knew that I wanted to capture the expressive and heavily graphic aesthetics that Terry and I were initially inspired by. I also wanted to ensure that the graphics were simple enough to withstand any textural alterations that Terry may have wanted to add onto them once he began making the clothes.
While the initial plan was to design clothes that had both the mascot designs and the text-based designs, we ultimately decided on a simpler approach and decided to pursue the text-based designs.

shooting the collection
When the clothes were finished and it was time to shoot and promote the collection, both Terry and I conceptualized and creative directed how we wanted the shoot to look aesthetically, what types of shots we wanted and how we wanted to show the clothes off.
We kept in mind that the promotion for the collection would be primarily on social media so we ensured that all the shots were in a vertical format that was compatible with Instagram and TikTok dimensions.
Unfortunately, on the day of, one of our models was unable to come so I stepped in and both modeled and directed the shoot alongside Terry.
